1.How much does bridal hair and makeup cost in Utah?

• • I would say individual services cost $100-300 per service. You also need to ask what does travel cost? Do you charge any extra fees like early morning, holiday, additional HMUA fees, etc.

2. When should I book my bridal hair and makeup artist?

• • Personally I wouldn’t recommend waiting. If you have a specific look or a specific budget than start looking. 
  • Utah is different than most states that weddings happen on average much quicker and has a shorter timeline, but there are still a significant amount of brides that are booking 1-1.5 year in advance so you might as well start and make a decision sooner rather than later.

3. Should I have a bridal hair and makeup trial?

• • Brides ask all the time if Trial runs are worth it. I ask them a few things. 
           1. Do you know exactly the type of makeup or hair that you want? If you are debating about two different hair styles or makeup and you want help deciding, than that’s a great reason to do a trial run. 
          2. If you have never had professional makeup done and are super nervous and you want to feel confident in your decision. Do a trial run. 
          3. If you aren’t from the area and need to test dry climate vs humid etc, or if you are unsure how the products will wear through the day or look in pictures. Do a trial run. 
    
  • Reasons you might not need or I might not recommend a trial run. 
         1. If you have worked with the MUA/hairstylist before and trust their work. 
          2. If you aren’t super picky and want a general pretty look but trust their work on her website/social media or because a friend has used them before. 
          3. If money is an issue some include trial runs most do not do if you skip it just have very clear expectations and inspo pics to have the best results. 

4. What bridal hairstyle works best for my dress and face shape?

• • I love helping brides choose the style of hair and makeup based off bride and preferences first and than I ask what is the vibe of the wedding and dress? Than I can give recommendations based off that. Some questions I ask to help a bride narrow down whether they want an Updo vs. half-up vs. Hollywood waves vs. ponytail, etc. 
    1. 1. Is your vibe Romantic, elegant, whimsy, country, classic, etc?
          • If you want romantic or whimsy and sometimes country I have found that more of the textured styles whether up or down looks really good with those styles.
            1. If you want classic or more elegant usually the cleaner, smoother, more precise looks work really well. So Hollywood glam waves, sleek bun, fuller bun just not with as much texture, twisted modern French twist cleaner on the sides. 
          • Are there aspects of the dress you really want to show off low back, off shoulders, etc.?
            1. If you have a low back or off shoulder I love a beautiful updo whether low or high or off the shoulder braid etc. 
          • Have you ever had an all updo for a special event?
            1. If you haven’t ever had an updo it’s hard to see ourselves with no hair or very little hair around our face. So if you haven’t and want an updo I for sure would recommend a trial run.  Do you mess with or tuck your hair a lot?
          • If you mess with your hair a lot or tuck it sometimes it’s best not to mess with fate and do a half up style so it’s out of your face. Are you self conscious about any part of your face or upper body part? If you have a very round or square face sometimes we either want more face framing thicker pieces or atleast a half up half down style. 

5. Do you travel to my venue, hotel, Airbnb, or mountain resort?

• • Unless you work out of a salon most Hair and Makeup artists that specialize in weddings travel, but there is always a fee whether included or separate. 

6. How long does bridal hair and makeup take on the wedding day?

• • This depends on the artist and the style of hair and makeup. Usually I would say most people say 45-60 min but some styles like full glam or Hollywood glam waves can take 90 min. The key is asking and trusting the artist. Ask them personally for a timeline don’t ask anywhere else. 
  • How many bridesmaids can one makeup artist do?
    • This depends on if they are a solo artist or have group they work with, but I would say most artists won’t take more than 4-7 services in one party. 

7. What should I do to prepare my skin and hair before my wedding?

• • I always recommend for great skin on wedding day it takes 3 months of great skin care, facials or products to have great skin.
  • Your hair needs to be clean either day before or morning of depending on stylist.
  • If you are getting a spray tan do not do day of or even day before 2-3 days before I think is perfect.
  • If you want additional services: teeth whitening, permanent makeup, lash extensions, sewn in hair extensions, facials, waxing. Ask the professional that does the service the best time to do before wedding. 

8. Does Natural makeup take less time and is it cheaper?

• • Most artists charge the same amount whether natural, soft glam, and most full glam, but some charge more if they do a lot of detail work for full glam.
  • You usually the same amount of products just different textures and colors, but the same amount so it costs the same.

9. Is Airbrush makeup better than traditional makeup?

• • I used to think airbrush makeup lasted longer and in general was better. In my opinion it became a fad that when it was new it was amazing for long lasting natural looking makeup. Nowadays traditional makeup has gotten so much better that in my opinion I can customize skin care, foundation style, and application better than airbrush so I stopped offering airbrush.  There are some amazing aibrush artists that do a great job, but in my opinion things have leveled out so I don't think airbrush is significantly better and airbrush can draw more attention to pores and wrinkles which is why I stopped using airbrush.

10. Are there better makeup looks for different eye shapes or face shapes?

• • Depending on the makeup artist they might just apply makeup based off inspiration photos. I personally do recommend how you can tweak or change the makeup specifically for your face shape and eye shape. And there are different styles that can work for everyone and some that are amazing on only certain eye shapes etc. So if you want recommendations for your specific eye shape and face shape ask your artist if they give suggestions or know what might look good with your own facial features.
