How to apply makeup for Hooded Eyes

If you aren't sure if you have hooded eyes. You can look in the mirror don't raise your brows relax and look straight don't look up or down hold the mirror completely straight level to your eyes. Look if  there is skin hanging on your lid.  If there is than you have hooded eyes. Some people only have partially hooded eyes, and some have full. Some people just have a little bit of skin and some have a very puffy hooded part. All of those things are considered hooded eyes. Now you might see videos on Pinterest, You Tube, Instagram, etc. There are plenty of people that have hooded eyes that are younger or that say if you have hooded eyes bring the shimmer eyeshadow past the hooded part so you can see it. If the point of you applying makeup is to see the shimmer than yes you can do that, but if the point is to make your eyes look less hooded than you want to pay attention to this video.

If you want to make your hooded eyes look less hooded than you actually want to push back or give the illusion of that skin being pushed back and the way to do that is NEVER put shimmer or lighter shadow on the hooded area. Lighter makeup and shimmer will make it look more noticeable and draw it forward. Darkening that area or any area will make that area look farther back. So if you want to make the hooded or puffy area look less puffy you need to give the illusion of pushing it back. So you take a matte (no shimmer) brown darker than your skin tone and apply it all the way to where the skin hangs down on your lid. Yes, that does mean if your hooded area covers your whole lid you want to darken that whole area.  I promise it will actually draw more attention to your eye and less attention to the hooded part of your eye. Which will in turn make you look younger, less tired, and make your eyes look more open. For anyone that I explain this to EVERYONE agrees that they want to make their eyes pop and their hooded part look less hooded.

When I do makeup for weddings and on clients if anyone asks me if they can have shimmer I will explain where we can do it and why and even if that means you only see the shimmer when you close your eyes or look down. I promise in pictures it makes you look better and younger, and EVERYONE wants that :)
